About the Organization
The Susan House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating at-risk youth through a combination of artistic, occupational, and emotional training, along with the imparting of life skills. Founded in 2002 in memory of Susan Kaplansky, who dreamed of helping young people through art, the organization provides teenagers with the opportunity to learn and work in creating beautiful glass, ceramics, and jewelry products, for which they receive a salary.
A dedicated team of professional artists, volunteers, and mental health practitioners supervise the youth throughout their work, helping them develop life skills and workplace competencies. The warm, inclusive atmosphere, combined with youthful energy and creativity, fosters the development of self-confidence, teamwork, financial management, decision-making, and a better understanding of the employment world.
